Hospitalists of Northern Michigan

We would like to introduce you to Hospitalists of Northern Michigan (HNM). Our specialty is hospital medicine, whose practitioners are referred to as hospitalists. As such, we are focused on providing care to hospitalized patients. Given technological advances such as electronic medical records, computerized order entry, new scanning and testing modalities, and an ever-increasing intensity of services, a whole new generation of providers has been required that are not only skilled clinicians but experts in the special needs of the hospitalized patient. This has made hospital medicine the fastest-growing medical specialty of the past decade.

As hospitalists, our unique knowledge of hospital medicine ensures that our patients get the best possible care and have the best possible outcomes. We are also an invaluable resource for the hospitals we partner with, helping them to ensure quality measures are met and working with their staffs to improve every aspect of patient care. The advent of hospital medicine has allowed for a provider-hospital partnership that was never before possible, making improvements in quality, safety and patient satisfaction a daily basis.

We free primary care providers from hospital duties so that they can focus on their office practice without the demands and interruptions to their schedule associated with providing inpatient care. This means better, more predictable care from your primary care provider. At the same time, because we are present in the hospital twenty-four hours per day, there is always an HNM hospitalist available to meet the needs of the hospitalized patients.

Hospitalists of Northern Michigan’s team is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition between a patient’s primary care provider, the care received during their hospitalization, and the return of the patient to their own provider’s care after discharge from the hospital. We work closely with the area providers to ensure good communications, easy access to medical records, and a safe handoff.
